I am seeing A Chorus Line on Saturday, October 28 and wonder about dress code. I want to wear jeans, black shoes, black velvet tank top and a red blazer. Is this o.k.?

Seriously, you can wear whatever you want to the theatre these days. Noel Coward once denounced the practice of wearing "denims" but this is one thing I disagree with him on. I'm all for maintaining the magic and ritual of the theatre, but at the same time, we need to encourage a new generation of people to try live theatre alongside cinema. You have paid for your ticket (sometimes an extraordinary amount) and you should be able to wear whatever you want providing it's not actively offensive or disruptive to your fellow theatre-goers (a tall top hat, for example). What you're proposing to wear is perfectly acceptable for a matinee or evening performance. The important thing is that you are supporting live theatre. Enjoy the show- don't worry for a moment about your attire. It's not important.

Dress code is generally wear anything comfortable. I have seen people dress in cardigans with holes in it, trainers, jeans and even boob tubes to watch the phantom of the opera. And I'm yet to see anyone get turned away. I would say dress smart, you don't want to feel under dresses, but believe me in comparison to what people normally wear it doesn't take much to feel over dressed. It was my bday a few month ago, saw les mes.. wore a nice dress (looked like a dinning dress) and it was as though I was the centre of everyones attention, bcz I was technically "so much more dressed up than everyone there" I felt a little awkward but it was my bday, so brushed off the stears.

Matinees are definitely more casual, but I still don't think I'd wear jeans. Some slightly dressier pants would do just fine. You'll look great! Enjoy the show!

That sounds great. Matinees are a bit more casual than an evening show, and your outfit sounds perfect.

I really don't think it's right to wear jeans to a theater show, ever. How about some casual business slacks instead of jeans? Then your outfit sounds just right.
