Lets not be silly, fellow answerers.

League would of course win the league match by a fair bit and union would win the union part by a mile. Modern professional union players are a bit different to the ones who previously participated in these games.

The league players would be wiped out in the contact area - tackling, rucks, mauls and the setpieces - it would actually be dangerous. Whereas the majority of union players couldn't cope with the constant backtracking in defence in the league game.

They are two sets of men built for different sports.

England rugby league would win by a short margin of 8 because there is far more skill involved in rugby league than in rugby union. The union boys couldnt handle the complexities of rugby league. The union boys are more used to running through like a bull in a china shop, where as the League boys have to think about the next move. Rugby Union is an easier game to play and follow than Rugby League.Rugby League is more of a team effort to score the tries.

League to Win League

Union to Win Union

The result would be closer than the old Wigan V Bath matches and the rugby league side would still need to find professional RU Front Row.

If the RU game were played with only genuine players in both teams then the front row law would be applied and scrummages would be non competitive. Should this occur then the GB Rugby League side would win both games.

Only a handful of points would separate the sides an any circumstance as with the professional era a lot of players now move between the codes.

I personally think that union is slightly better to play if your a second rower. All other positions (except flanker i guess) league is much better. Rugby League is safer to play with uncontested scrums and no mauls or whatever they call that sh!t where some chum kicks you in the face. League has a better point scoring system with field goals only worth 1 point. Watching league is 10 times better than watching union, as union is just kick-lineout-scrum until someone gets a penalty and takes a shot at goal. As for the guy saying that union is for public school people its really the complete opposite. Union is for yuppies living through their grammar school sons and league is usually the game of the lower socio-economic class (which is what it was invented for)

as already stated the two codes have met before but only at club level. we are talking international level players who are respected as the best of the trade. however this said i believe that both games would come down to best defences and that would have to be rugby league. however they would struggle with the technicalities of the line outs and scrums but if they have a months training on the basics they should be OK. so my moneys on the league boys no disrespect to all you union lovers.

Union would win both by about 15-20 points because League players have no idea about rucking or mauling and a League team is a bit like a team comprised entirely of Union back players.

If you are saying 2 matches one of league and one of union then I think the Union would win both. This is because if you can play union well then you can play league well but not vica versa. League doesn't have rucking and mauling like union so it would be difficult for the league players to adapt to this. For this reason I think that the union would win the union game by about 20 points and the league by about 5.

In previous contests (St Helens Vs Orrel or whoever the RU team were they used to play) League has triumphed, in the Middlesex 7s...every time the RFU invited a League team they won it, hence the fact that RL teams are no longer invited.
Rugby league focuses far more on skill and pace, RL players would be too quick, too agile and just too damn good for the Union team therefore League would win.
