It depends what for and which area. In some ways London is a lot of little villages and it is whether you are in a good village that matters rather than where it is.

On the whole, and excepting Hampstead, South West London is more expensive to live in than North West - larger houses, gardens etc. There are some nice suburban town centres, like Richmond and places to go like Kew Gardens. However, transport to South West London tends to mean train from Waterloo rather than underground. Also, many places in South West London are under the flight path to Heathrow.

If you work or are visitng somewhere particular in Central London, a major issue is whether there is a good transport connection rather than which direction you are going to travel in.

Northwest London for sure! Interesting, eclectic cool areas to be in. Camden, Hampstead, Primrose Hill. Great Pubs and restaurants, best for people watching and just hanging out.

It depends - if you are actually a londoner, north london is far better, cos hampstead, primrose hill, and islington are great.

If you arenot from london, south london is far better (cos those of us who are from london don't want you to come and ruin the nice bit ;)
