-x-3=7 so... you bring -3 to the other side of the = sign... so it becomes +3... so you get...
-x=10
you never want a negative x so you switch it around to give you
x=-10
Basically, to solve any equasion with numbers and algebra you want to get all the x on one side of the = and all the values on the other side untill you reach a point where the missing value has a value.. To check, substitute in the value and see if it is equal.
Hope this helps :)

-x-3=7
bring the 3 over and add
-x= 10
now take the - from the x and put it on the 10
x=-10
9x-6=8
add the 6 to the other side
9x=14
divide 14 by 9
x=1.5555
