In a nutshell, he thought your dreams were two parts - the part you remember, but that's distorted - and the part where you are trying to tell yourself something.

I actually love dreams and how the mind works but would never claim to fully understand either.
My interpretation is that at the end of each day when you lay your weary head to rest your mind needs to disgard all the irrelevant information it has gained over previous hours and days. So, what it tries to do is put snippets of information together that it thinks fits best in to a story type format, result, a dream. Sometimes the info in your head wont make a story so you get the "slide show" type dream.
Also when you have been worried your mind tends to wait until it thinks you are ready to deal with things before it gets rid of these thoughts!! i.e. I've had things going on and been feeling a bit insecure, in the space of 2 nights I dreamt my BF cheated on me and then dreamt I'd lost him. The 2 things I'd been thinking whilst feeling insecure!
Does that make sense?? Ha I've probably confused you more!

I think that the question you just asked is a very good question. I think it depends on who you ask. Some might see it one way while others might see it the other way. If i had to answer, i would say that freuds theory oreams is that the mind has to relax. and when the mind relaxes, it begins to dream. dreams let you recall all the stuff that happened during the dat

Freud's theory about dreams is that:
All dreams are a reflection of our desires and wishes.
Dreams are wish fulfillment; thus, if you dream for instance that someone close to you died( although you love him/her), it is only a manifestation of your repressed anger toward that person. You just dont act on it on consciously, but your subconscious mind does.

It is really too complicated, but dreams are made of: 1) remains of the day, which are things that you lived, saw, heard during the day, and 2) what your unconscious mind adds to them according to your problems, emotions, feelings, issues, etc.
So that's how the dream is built, and what you see in the dream does not have to be taken literally in order to interpret it. There are hidden meanings, many of them related to sex. Also, how you feel in the dream is important (scared, happy, sad, etc.).

Can't sum it up in this lil amount of space -- his theories are text books in lengths. Just know that with Freud - everything is sex-related.
