And to kanis, we are familiar with the "desktop killers" but THIS ISN'T ONE OF THEM. Don't list to people who tell you that you just need more RAM, the most important part of a gaming system is the video card, which is almost impossible to replace in most laptops, hence you have a problem.

To all those complaining about Laptops/notebooks for gaming, they are obviously not familiar with the growing number of "desktop killers" - laptops which are aimed at traditional desktop users...but I digress here.

Increasing your hard-drive while useful in other ways ( I personally wouldn't go bellow 80-100BGB for a notebook, but then I do keep a lot of large graphics files on board), will actually not make an awful amount of difference to your overall speed - is a bit of a myth really. The only HDDs that would actually make a drastic speed difference are the newly available hybrid drives, which are using a smaller flash memory to cache regularly access info to lighten the load on the drive itself...but on a laptop old enough to only 30GB, I doubt it would be compatible anyhow.

So what can you do?? Firstly as a gamer you want at least 1GB of RAM, although 1.5 - 2GB would be much better. You also want to look at a decent graphics card - personally I think nVidia is the way to go - looking at least 256MB, although you can actually get 512MB cards - just be sure to purchase through HP, as being that the card is for a notebook, you'll be lucky to get the drivers from anyone but the laptop's manufacturer.

oh ya ... get more ram , get more graphics , bigger hard drive
(no mention of sata & rpm, lol)
sounds very cool

i do not intend to hurt you pal !
please be informed that the processor is the core of u'r machine
u'r celeron has 1 mb l2 cache
the pentium m's & core solo & duo's have 2 mb l2 cache
then there's the core 2 duo t7x00 which has an awesome 4 mb l2 cache

besides the l2 cache being poor, the architecture & build or processing power of the celeron processor is rather poor, despite clock speed of 2.0 ghz as u mention !

there r gaming notebooks
dell & alienware among them
posting a dell xps m1710

>> so u get an idea

lemme know if i can explain / elaborate better

Buy a better computer - see if HP will trade it in. 512 MB RAM is not enough for gaming. Especially if you're talking about RPG's or similar games to what's on XBOX or PS. And 30 GB HD? If you're looking to buy PC games and not play online, you also need a much larger HD. Furthermore, desktops are the way to go for gaming.

My teenage son prefers to play games on my XPS desktop rather than his laptop.

Laptops are pigs for gaming...

Upgrades are difficult to do yourself, the parts are generally more expensive...

All i can suggest is that you buy a mouse for your laptop (cos them scroll panels never really work).

and if you want better gaming you need 2 vital factors... A kick *** graphics card (radeon or Nvidia 256mb+)
and i'd quadruple the RAM you have on the system, but thet graphics card memory is an important detail you've not included.

The best solution would be to trade it in for a desktop. The secondary solution would be to up your RAM. That's all you can do with a laptop to upgrade it really...

properly you're able to desire to place up up your specs of your pc for us to be waiting to tell you, i'm guessing the recommended specs would be like Nvidia Geforce photographs card (probable to be like a 256mb i'm guessing) CPU l'm guessing would be around a duel middle 2.0 your HDD memory will probable might desire to be extensive (as all Sims take alot of HDD memory especially while you're finding out to purchase the boost packs ect) and that could desire to almost hide it i think wish it helped
