Some of the mice (assuming that you are referring to a _computer_ mouse) that were supplied with Gateway machines had circuit problems.
Gateway's solution was to replace the device.
New mice, meeses, mousees, whatever are only about $5 in the chain stores.

Electronics will heat up with use, let it go for a while.
If it is still hot then swap it as it may be on its way out.

if your mouse is new then replace it in warranty if it is old then go for new before it explode in your hand.
