Go ahead and call the doctor's office and tell them that you have had a positive pregnancy test. If they want to see you right away, they will set up an appointment. Otherwise, they will schedule you for an appointment about 4 weeks from now. Is your GP the one you want to deliver your baby? If not, call someone else. If you have questions or are not sure if you want your GP to deliver your baby, you better schedule an appointment as soon as possible so that you can find a doctor you are happy with. Another thing to consider is whether or not your GP will even deliver your baby and what hospital he or she will use. Many doctors (even gynecologists) will not deliver babies because of all the lawsuits and insurance problems.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Studies show that the sooner in pregnancy that you receive prenatal care, the healthier you and your baby will be.

okay lots of vary on the answer. i assume you are in th uk as you said GP.
as far as i am aware you cannot get prenatal vitamins on the NHS, so start buying and taking them asap.
i am 8 weeks today in fact. anyway i rushed al;ong to the gp to tell them thinking they would tell me all sorts od lovely things. insteda he just told me what to eat and what to avaod....... he took my blood pressure and weighed me and then said ill see you again when you have your baby.
i then had to make an appointment wit the midwife when i was 7weeks to see them at 10 weeks.
too be honest i felt a bit in the dark but then i guess thats what all the books are for these days.
the midwife apointment at 10 weeks all the test etc will be done.
so good luck with the coming weeks and lets hope its smooth for you.
you feel like you are the only one ever whop has been preganat but in reality its happening all day all over the world..................
congratulations x

Yes, but I work in a GYN office and most doctors do not want to see you until you are at least 8 weeks. That is 8 weeks from your last period so you would be 6 weeks gestation time. When the fetus is 6 weeks old you should be able to see a heartbeat on an ultrasound

congratulations
You will need to see your gp before you reach about 10-12 weeks to discuss maternity care. Also you should be taking folic acid every day which you can get from your gp, or from the chemist/health food shop.
Its nice to see your GP early, as you can pick up helpful leaflets from your GP practice, and discuss things like diet, exercise, morning sickness etc, in fact any thing that you like!
So its up to you when you go. You wont be examined, just a blood pressure check at this stage.
Good luck

I went early at around 6 or 7 weeks with this pregnancy because I had moring sickness 24/7 and wanted help. So yes its better to make an appt now so whatever obstacles you run into the dr can help you with. Good Luck!

You dont need to see your GP. If you're happy about being pregnant, you just need to call to make an appointment to see your midwife when you are 10-12 weeks pregnant.
When I called my doc to say I had done a pregnancy test and should I come in for one of theirs, the doc told me that the ClearBlue and most over-the-counter tests are actually more accurate than their own.
Good luck. xx

Yes, you should make an appointment right away to ensure that you are eating the right foods and living the best lifestyle possible for your baby's health.
If there is time between now and your upcoming doctor appt...you should take another test using a different pregnancy tester...just to cover all possibilities.
Congrats!

Make an appointment now, preferably with an ob/gyn, midwife, or whomever who will be delivering your baby. They will confirm, check your urine and blood, possibly ultrasound if you don't know the date of your last period, and put you on prenatal vitamins. Not to mention they will send you home with a butt load of useful reading material so you can start planning. Very important to have your first check up asap and every follow up check up after that.
