Wow, he came up with that name 35 years ago. I can't believe we had to wait all that time, before we'd get a question like that. I suppose he needed a stage name and wanted something off-the-wall. It worked for him. When you go on stage, a stage name definitely has a purpose - people remember you by it more easily than 'Michael Lee Aday'. You can call yourself lasagna, but what use is it to have a name and not use it?

It's funny u mention lasagna. On an episode of Seinfeld, Elaine referred to a guy in the seat next to her on the plane as "vegetable lasagna".

By the way, Meat Loaf's real name is Marvin Lee Aday. And his nickname came from his dad as he was growing up.
