I had the same problem so I opened
it up and the ball had pull up lint. so
maybe it just needs cleaning.
try it.

It is a laser/optical mouse. Some surfaces are to retractile (glass, metal) for them to work correctly, the pointer will jump around wildly. Try it on a mouse pad, or piece of paper.
If that isn't it go into the control panel and see if you can recalibrate the mouse...

track ball mouse mine was to fast all over i slowed the speed seting works fine now

i had this problem once with my wireless rat, turned out the problem was my mouse pad. make sure it is clean, or run your rat on a sheet of paper. worked for me.
