I bought my female mouse from a pet store just over a week ago. When I bought her she was from a tank with 15 other mice. All female supposively! She was quite skinny when I bought her but now she is getting fat, Not chubby all over, but a very round hard tummy. I dont know why she is getting bigger everyday. She isnt running on her wheel and she sleeps constantly! Is she sick, or pregnant?? I wish I knew so I can feed her more protein and get her perpared for the birth. If anyone has any advice, ideas or opinions they would really help me! Thanx!

Sounds like she could be pregnant. Sometimes inexperienced pet store employees can't always tell the males and females apart (Which I can't even begin to understand as the difference is very obvious) But one of the males may have been accidently put in the female cage. This is not at all uncommon. I am involved in small animal rescue and you would be amazed how many people buy rodents from pet stores only to discover that they are pregnant. If you are concerned that she may be sick instead(and I can't really determine that for you) please, do take her to a vet. Otherwise, just make sure she's getting enough food. You can give her very small bits of chicken or egg for extra protein. If you are concerned about what to do about the babies, You can contact a local small animal rescue in your area. Petfinder.com has a listing of rescues, you can look there. Good luck!

Yup, you got a pregnant mouse! Been there done that. I have had many like this. Better plan on what you will do with those babies. She'll be having between 8-14 of them. Females will live together. Males need to be parted up or they fight like heck! Better get them parted up by 21 days after birth or the process will start all over again. I always gave little bits of cooked chicken and crickets. My mice loved lived crickets and mealworms. I had the sweetest , prettiest little mice! My favorites were the agouti colored mice..house mouse colored ones though I have had pink eyed whites, fancies like cinnamons, reds, silvers, fawns, rexes and silkies. Mice are sweet! I like girls best! Males smell more! My favorite is a rattie!

Yep! Sounds like your mousy is PREGO!!! Anywhoo, don't freak out. I just had the same thing happen to me with a rat I bought a while back. (I assume they are about the same thing) First of all if your female mouse is in a cage with a male, you will want to remove her before she gives birth or else the male will eat the babies... A mouse is usually pregnant for about 3 to 4 weeks- to give you an estimate. As far as the birthing goes, theres not much you can do. They pretty much handle it themselves. But right now I'd just be sure to that she is getting all the propor nutrients so she can produce enough milk. Standard mouse food from a petshop is fine. But in order to boost her vitamine, protien, and calcium intake- here are some treats that I have given to my rats. (These are good to give them at just about any time, ad long as you don't over-do it)
-Vegetables/fruit (chopped carrots, banana, apple, grapes, avocado, celery, ect...)
-Wheat bread (it is good to give your mouse a small ball of wheat bread soaked in olive oil about once a week; This will keep her coat soft and dandruff free)
-Cerial (use cerial with not alot of sugar, like Kix or Special K)
-Nuts/Grains
-Yogurt
-Cheese (occasionally)

After she has had the babies, if you feel like you can't handle all the little rascalls: You may think about giving them up to a pet shop or maby a friend (after they mave moved on to solid food and water of course) Thet will do that on their own by watching mom. That should happen maby a week or two after they start running around. Well I hope that helped you out some. For any additional information you might want to know about, try visiting this website. www.ratsrule.com Yeah, it's for rats- but I can't see how they are much different from each other. Good LUCK!

She is maximum possibly pregnant. some male mice have very glaring testicles, some are alot greater diffused. I as quickly as had 2 lady mice and one have been given pregnant; someway a wild male have been given in and out of the cage for the period of the evening. If she's no longer pregnant she could have a phantom being pregnant, the place she might have all of the signs and warning signs of a pregancy yet won't easily be donning toddlers. If she would not drop interior the subsequent week take her to the vet, if she does, shop her seperated from the male.
