well I hate to answer as I see according to others I may need an a**kicking, but yes I have.
If they are in a carseat that they could not get out of, if it was not too hot or cold - I lock the car & set the alarm. But I do not see my city as that dangerous, and usually I would do it at the gas station so I could watch the van while I am inside paying.

I have 13 and 11 year old girls. I would never leave my car running while going to the shops....maybe sending your 12 year old in to get what you needed could've been a better way to do it. My 13 year old has mild aspergers. Sometimes i let her wait in the car, but never with keys in ignition. I let my kids go in to the shop for me to go get small amounts of things for me. While i wait in the car. Your 12 year old is probably too young to be responsible for her lil bro or sis. I don't think it's legal to leave kids home alone until they are 14. What if some crazy saw an opportunity to kidnap your 12 year old and/or your 2yo?. It happens. So you were fined, to show you they need your protection. Probably more so because there was a toddler in the car.

Nope, no way. Not worth the risk for the few minutes of convenience not getting them out of the car.

Oh, Hell no. Too many crazies in the world, and too many other things that could happen. My aunt left my niece in the car one time, the car was on a slope, my neice got into the front seat and somehow put the car in reverse, and it ran into a tree (I shudder when I think of how much worse it could have been)

Not even for a second would I leave a small child in a car. That is dangerous in this day and age that we live in.

Never. Wouldn't leave a child, or any other animal alone in a vehicle unattended. It's too dangerous for many reasons.

Never. I have seen parents do this and it always scares me. If it isn't illegal, it should be. Notify the police and see what they have to say about it. I'm sure someone will get into trouble.

No way. I'm way too overprotective. I only leave her in the car if there is another adult I know with her. Otherwise I'll take her with me.
