hi, yesterday in gymnastics i twisted my hand and landed on it, and since then my little finger and all the way down the side of my hand and to about half way up arm really hurts, but i can move my fingers except i can't my little finger all the way without it giving me a shooting pain. it doesn't hurt at the top of my finger but on my knuckles and my arm. i don't think i've broken it but i don't know if i have just strained it or something like that? well thanks for your replys if you post one :)

i did a similar thing to my little toe a while back- thought it was broken- alot of pain- swollen- couldn't really move it- v painful. i didn;t go to doctor as feet fix themselves (esp little toes) but it took a long time even 2 months later it still hurts...you have 2 options
1-...go to the doctor- if the bones start to re-set in the wrong place and you leave it there is nothing the doc can do and he'll send you home- so don;t leave it- go and get it looked at or you will have a malformed hand like my toe. just take a good book and wait to be seen- there might be nothin broken but 'better be safe than sorry'
2-...if you can move the bones it probably isn't broken and will heal itself- but doc might be able to give you a better bandage.

It sounds like you have what is called a "boxers knuckle." Is it really swollen by the knuckles and a little blue or red? If yes to both of these then that is what you have. It means you popped the finger out of the socket and it popped back in by itself. The only other thing I could think of is a hairline fracture of you pinky. If that is what it is get Popsicle stick or tongue depressor and tape that finger to the Popsicle stick(under the finger and the palm) and then taping the finger to another finger for support. Even if you go to the doctors this is all they will do for a broken finger.

Dont pay money for an X-ray when you can treat it at home. The worst it can be is broken, right? Well, the doctors orders for a broken finger is always the same...tape 2 fingers together for a few days or until feeling better. Its not like they can cast a finger. Apply ice and take Tylenol for pain.

Good Luck.

Well first you need to go see your gp and he will send you for a x-ray,or you can go to your nearest A/E dept and get seen by one off the drs.If you still have pain after this accident then possibly you have done something, fracture, torn ligament, dislocation, torn muscle,or you may off just sprained the finger which can be just as painful as a fracture. You need to get it checked out really, and you will be given the right treatment, take regular pain killers, and the bandage wont help alot either, you need proper treatment.Good Luck

As it sounds as if you are school age, you could very easily fracrtured a bone in your finger (teens and kids get what are called green stick fractures because theri bones are not so hard.). You should really see a doctor.

get an Xray - you may need to strap 2 fingers together with tape (micropore of elastoplast) for suppport until it heals. You might need to see a physio

You problably pulled a muscle or strained it. Put ice and heat on it and if it doesn't clear up...go to the doctor.
