I agree disabled people should get supported purchase schemes for hardware, free broadband access and help with software etc ,if the body is disabled then we must compensate by expanding the mind .What better way to fight depression than by having an active mind.

I am also disabled. I believe any benefits for the disabled should put us in the same position as the able-bodied, but not ahead of them, ie, no special treatment. A good example in the UK (when I lived there) was the scheme that allowed an adapted car. Of course the recipient had to give up certain benefits but that was only a fraction of the cost of supplying a new, adapted car every two years. What this did was give a disabled person a car at roughly the cost an able bodied person would pay. That is a good use of tax money

To return to your original question, if you are shopping from home you are not burning gas shopping at bricks and mortar stores. So you are incurring no extra costs. It follows that a reduced rate would be unfair.

Yes, I'm afraid I do think so really, you don't have to rely on the internet, you just choose to rely on it. I suppose if you were willing to give up your disabled parking permit stating you didn't need it because you use the internet to shop it might entitle you to a discount? Do disabled people get or expect a cheaper phone bill because they use it for contact? And how expensive is the internet anyway, not much, you don't have to have broadband, do you? Sorry, don't wish to sound anti disabled, but I think you should pay as much as we do, it's not a necessity, you'd be fine without it, and cope just as well as all the millions of disabled people who managed to shop, bank and stay in touch with people 15 years ago when we didn't all have the internet.

I am disabled and I don't think we should get a discount.

My disability is not bad enough that I have to rely on the Internet, but for someone who relies on it, then yes I agree with you,

For someone like me who can occasionally get out and about I don't think I should pay less than anyone else as its a service I can choose not to have.

I think, however, we should get a discount on gas and electricity prices though. Its OK for those who have a job, then can keep warm at their employers expense, but those of us without a job have to pay to keep warm in working hours. It might help if employers considered us human beings and where prepared to give us a chance to prove ourselves at a job, but as soon as you say you are disabled or an employer realises you are disabled, you have no chance.

Yes I think that disabled people should pay the same as everyone. My daughter is severely disabled and all her life I have tried to reinforce that she and we as a family are treated like everyone else as we are in dependant and I encourage her Independence. I use the Internet to do things that I find difficult when she is at home but expect no special privileges for it.

Not trying to be mean but yes, because disability has nothing to do with it. only income I think Internet should be based on income if you cant afford the monthly bill. Yes I know that Workman's comp and the government don't pay you to live like a rock star or even a poor man but still. I think that it should be based on income. since your income is less that would probably include you.

Everyone else's charges would go up, other low income people can't afford that.
I have friends and relatives who are deaf and when they had the old minicom style phones the cost of a phone call was astronomical. They used to be able to get help with their phone bills from one of the deaf societies.
Whatever disability you have, contact the relevant society and ask if they've considered doing this, they like to get input and feedback like this.

I think people who are disabled should have the opportunity to work and make their own money to the best of their ability. If they cannot support themselves then they should be provided with enough money for a reasonable standard of living. They would then be in the position to buy an internet service if they wanted one.

But disabled people ask for equality - why should you be treated different to able bodied people who rely on the internet.

I rely on it to do my job - if I didn't have it I would have to travel 26 miles to the office every morning.

I still have to pay £25 a month..

Yes, I'm sorry. I believe in treating people equally, regardless of handicaps.
If you're having trouble paying for your internet, I am truly sorry. But many disabled people got by without internet before it was created.
I believe that people should help those like you, not the government. If that seems callous, I am truly sorry. But I've helped many disabled people get around, and I've known many who were in wheelchairs that got by without internet.
You could do it too, if you have to.
