Sometimes people shop to make themselves feel better. They are self medicating just like a drug addict or an alcoholic because they get a tremendous rush when they buy something, especially if it was a bargain! Try to look at your life and figure out the things you are not happy with. Make a list if you have to of the things which you would not change and the things you would. Sometimes just writing things down can help you to see which parts of your life are making you unhappy. It could be that you have a great relationship but you don't really like your job or your job is ok but relatives are upsetting you.
Hopefully if you can address the things in your life which put you on edge then your need to shop will diminish. But the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one, which you did by coming on answers! Good luck.x

Stop doing that. Only buy something if you absolutely LOVE it and feel like you couldn't live without it. And instead of buying so many cheap peices, maybe you could start saving your money for one amazing, high qulity piece that you'll love forever. You could also start by cleaning out your closet and giving away anything that is poorly made or ill fitting to charity. Once you do that, then you should be able to take a look at your closet and see what you really need to invest in.

There are 2 things you can do about this:
1. Shop in better stores where they have quality merchandise.
2. Check your wardrobe. Try on everything in your closet. Be ruthless! If it doesn't fit, give it to the Goodwill of Salvation Army.
If it's worn out, pitch it out! Now, "build" outfits out of what's left. Figure out what you need to fill in the gaps. See what you actually need. Make a list. (Example, a pink blouse to go with my Chanel suit, a green sweater to go with my wool slacks. You could actually wear the suit or the slacks that the new item is needed for to the store). Bring the list to the store with you. Then shop for only what you need. Curb your appetite for spur of the moment buying. If it doesn't fit, IT'S NO BARGAIN! The sale racks will always be full of clothes that noone else wanted either! So don't even look!

I know exactly how you feel. I used to give bags of clothes to charity shops each month that were never worn. I'm a "multishopper" - if I like something I buy every colour - even if it has 10 options! I got myself into some really heavy debt.
It sounds sad maybe, but what I do is keep a list going and when I realise I need something ie new shoes for work, a red top to go with a red belt - whatever - it goes on the list.
This way I only buy stuff that I need or to complete an outfit. Not just another pair of jeans I don't need or another pair of black boots.
Try it ! And good luck.

Ugh! I feel your pain! I'm the same way! I have to leave my money at home when I go shopping or only allow myself to only buy one thing and if I get that one thing on sale - even better! My really bad areas are makeup and bath and body works. I could easily spend $100 to $200 a week in there. They're always coming out w/ new scents. They even offered me a part time job just so I could get a discount.

Don't buy anything without trying it on, and when you go to the changing rooms, take several sizes of the same item, so that you aren't tempted to buy the only size you tried on - even if it doesn't fit.
Failing that, cut up your credit card! It' not a bargain if you don't wear it!

Just don't go to the mall. Save your money. Think "do I really need this." If your closet is filled don't buy any more clothes unless you need a new outfit for a special occasion. On the bright side it's good you're buying bargains.

Look at it this way. Anything that's useless cannot be classed as a bargain as it's obviously a waste of money. If you have so much money that you can afford to buy things you wont ever use then maybe a good idea would be to put some of that money to good use by contributing it to a worthwhile charity.

Carry a piece of paper with you at all times with the following on it.
'A bargain is something which I can buy which costs less than its value to me. THEREFORE
HOW CAN IT BE A BARGAIN IF IT IS USELESS TO ME???'
When you see something you think is a good price but is not your size look at this piece of paper and put the item back. You cannot justify something as a bargain if it is of no use to you. that, to me, would be more a suitable defintion of 'waste of money.'
