I am from the USA. I don't understand why people hate American's. I am just a normal person. I believe that underneath we are all the same. I feel like I am a good person and my children are good people. I wonder if children from other countries are taught to hate American's or how that happens. I realize our president (I didn't vote for him) makes some really bad mistakes. Unfortunately he represents American's. Just so you know he is not a typical American. Most of us are normal, caring people.

I think it has a great deal and more poigniantly, to do with the fact that American culture is quite an expressive one and therefore promotes a greater sense of confidence in it's population unlike here in Britain and some other countries rather than anything political. It's the ability your country has to be decided and do (whether for right or wrong reasons) the good for humanity and that takes assertion and confidence which are true leadership qualities. Britain has gone to war with Iraq themselves but ever so less confidently and yet, they are as guilty for wanting to resolve international conflicts as the next (but it is the conservatism of this country that makes the populace more reserved and therfore resentful of the fact that America gives the illusion that there is personal liberation amongst individuals.

Our greatest aspiration as individuals and as a society, is to want this same kind of liberation but with a stronger leadership to follow by example, we do not have this and so therfore, are more 'closeted' and retreat to an old familiar deliberation that the government here appears so rational if not decided, but this sends out a strong message that we are to sit on the fence, be moral and critical. Leaders of the ancient world would never have fallen in disgrace at this and perhaps explains why the fall of rome, for instance had come about, because their opponnents were decisive (whether for wrong or right reasons). We are a civilized peopel, but we are still as much animal as we were two thousand years ago and this is what people cannot seem to comprehend when we are literate, educated, learned etc etc.......

There is an innate yearning to be liberated from conventions but also the desire to be civilized that prevents this. We are suppossed to have a democray and yet, we have very little influence in the way the govenment rules. It the world lay flat open tommorrow, millions of Brits would shake of the rational collar and do with their new librtation they would never otherwise. So it is all in the free-pie you americans that the British are resentful more than anything political.

Being an American is like being a parent of many kids. Some you just can't please some follow everything you do and some are just royal pains in the ***. We generally try to help the world, that's what being an American is . Some people don't want our help we still offer it. We put ourselves in some bad situations a lot. Iraq is a prime example, yes we needed to do something. The abuse of people in Iraq were terrible. The problem is do we have a right to say what's right and wrong in other countries. We have countries that just out right hate us for no reason, but if they had a problem and needed help we would be one of the first to offer. So being an American is something to be proud of. We care an when you need us we will always be there. That's just the way we are. To the people and countries we have helped, YOUR WELCOME, MOST FORGET TO THANK US.

I have visited the states twice and just as everywhere else there are good and bad people.

When I was in New York I met some great people who where pretty 'normal'. I had a great time there.

I did a camp in Minnesota in 2002 and there where some great people there, but there where alot more who thought of themselves as 'superior beings' and looked down on everyone else.

As I am disabled I got it worse than most people,. According to them I was the 'scum of the earth'. The only people I have met like that here in the UK are from Kent.

Unfortunately for people in America, people notice those type of people more than they notice the good ones.

An example of the bad publicity that Americans face is the controversy about what Rush Limbaugh said about Micheal J Fox. Most people here think that all Americans think like that now that the Neo Cons or Neo Nazi's are in control.

Its about time nice people like you stood up for themselves and got themselves noticed so not everyone thinks that Americans are pigs.

I don't think that people hate Americans (well except the complete idiots who think it is OK to blow up whoever and whatever they want in the name of god) but then it isn't just America that has had that. I think it is the media and Government they have this view that America is great and that everyone in it is perfect and try to force the whole world to agree with them. Individually I am sure there are some very nice Americans and some nasty ones like here in England and every other country in the world.

However I do think it is very stupid to Legalise Guns and Glorify rap artists and Gun Culture as it also is having an effect in England and other counties

I,m English and i don,t hate Americans. There are good and bad in all countries. I dont like your gun culture but i,m not aware of it when i visit there. If America wasn't there people would hate a different country. I think that because America is the wealthiest country in the world that automatically makes you a target to some people.
Live your life and enjoy it. Let the other people do the worrying.

I am an English woman who lived in the United States for a year.

I love Americans! They are good genuine and friendly people. I have not a bad word to say about your country nor its people!

Your education system and television however concentrates on the USA only. American movies are often poorly researched. In Disney films for example you often see American animals like chip monks and racoons in the English country side. Big deal? Well then you hear an American saying something like 'I hear you eat wild chip monks in the UK' and it makes the American look foolish. George Bush does not help! However you have priesidents in the past who were veiwed as fools in the UK Regan was one!

I am not saying Americans are stupid!! I am saying that when they travel they are ill informed and sometimes disrespectful of the culture they have entered. Of course us Brits are not known for our tollerance overseas but the adverage Brit is far more well travelled and used to people from very diffierent cultures.

From the outside it looks very much as if all America loves is America especailly for not signing the international agreement cutting fuel immisions in cars. The USA prouduces Most polution! (not a vote winner in the USA but a life saver for our world and every other country has signed and is angry at your selfishness!)

Somalia and the USA are the only two countrys in the UN who have not signed upto the Bill of 'rights of the child'. Which I find shocking for a country that claims to be 'the land of the free.'

Your army is feared by the British more than the enemy because you tend to kill more British soilders! My brother is in Basra in the British army and your troops are deeply feared by ours!

You are also the richest country in the world.. I think we are 4th. We both use the third world for our own ends causing war, slavery and suffering for our own selfish reasons.

Next time you buy Gap jeans, Nike shoes or pick up a bag of coffee think about who we exploited to get that stuff so cheap!

These people have every reason to hate me and you for the way the big companies keep them poor and their children at deaths door! Terorism has hardly began wait until China has Africa off its knees !(they are working on it right now!) Africa is the fault of the west! Nestle' promote the selling of baby milk to the worlds porest and least educated people. These African Mothers who wish their kids were as heatlhy as the baby pictured on all the tins! Then they use filthy water to make the formular and their children die. But Nestle' make cash from it and do not care! Hate we know nothing of it yet! How would you fee about the West if your child died for such a selfish reason??

We need to help African poor farmers by buying directly from them! In the UK this is called fair trade. Its morally discusting what our governments allow in our name!

I did not write any of this out of spite. Its the truth as I see it. I still love Americans and still get a lump in my throat on sept 11th. But this is why many hate you... and me too!

I've only ever met a handful of American people, some i got on with some i didn't, but it had nothing to do with where they came from!
You could say the same for americans who hate the canadiens?
People will always hate something, although i thought that most people hated the French, don't ask me why they do, they just do?

I certainly dont hate AMericans. think there aree a lot of great things about the American culture. You are a very vociferous people and I admire that. You are not afraid to say what you like and dont like. Brits arent very good at expressing emotion. I do however, think that subtlety is not your strong point. I thnk the British pride themselves on their understatedness (some would say they were too reserved) and maybe thats where Americans and Brits clash
