Before 9/11 and after are no different, only now the feds tell us what they are doing, but have been doing it all along, anyway. And, of course, our local governments never thought we had any rights and now use "terror threats" as an excuse to basically do anything to anyone. The police make illegal stops all the time. Probable cause was the standard until the supreme court ruled that "reasonable suspicion" took the place of that. There no laws in this entire country that state that you or I must carry any form of ID. Yet people are arrested and held because they don't have a piece of paper to prove who they are. Violations of the 4th amendment happen all the time. And Judges, that is, most Judges don't even view the 4th amendment has a cause for discussion. As it is abused all the time and so often that they simply ignore that right all together. I have a few cases that I can show that to be true.

A few years ago I worked as a bartender, part-time. A young lady rode the city bus home from work and stopped in the bar sometimes for a drink before walikng home, about 2 blocks. 1 night she left the bar and was walking home at about 1 AM. Two police officers stopped her for no reason.
PO: Don't you know this is a drug infested area? Lady: Well I have no choice but to walk home ! PO: Do you have ID? Lady: Yes but I didn't do anything ! PO: Take everything out of your purse and my partner needs to search you. Lady: Why?
PO: So you refuse to empty your purse? Lady: I didn't do anything ! PO: We will have to put you under arrest. Lady: Why?
So she is cuffed. But the PO didn't tighten them up enough and she gets her one hand loose and brings it around to her front, at which time her arm is twisted behind her back and she is re-cuffed. She taken to the Police station and written a ticket for: "obstructing a police officer." A $750 class a misdemeanor. And just what did she do?

Taffi, had two or three of my answers removed by yahoo, so much for free speech and if that right is all you think is important, well good luck. By the way the answer were about police practices.

Some of you people need to read the bill of rights and the constitution. Or better yet have an experience like my friend mentioned above did. It is easy to sit back and watch the rights of others being violated. But when it is your turn, that will be a different story, I can bet on that.

Robyn C, There are many "laws" that are not truly laws that are used in our country. In the 1980's a black man was stopped numerous times in Beverly Hills, while out running. His crime? No ID. His case went to the supreme court, where he won. No where in this country can anyone be forced to have any form of ID at anytime. You do not have to prove who you are.

jenivive,
It is always amusing to me to read answers like yours. Your rights are being violated everyday and when a fellow american tries to speak up about those rights, we get answers like yours. People like you are just to stupid to be helped.
