Proportional Problem
Multiplying the means and multiplyint the extremes.

The means = 8.0 (24)

The extremes = s(1.6)

s/24 = 8.0/1.6

s1.6 = 8.0(24.0)

s1.6 = 192

s/1.6/1.6 = 192/1.6

s = 120

The answer is s = 120

Insert the s value into the equation

- - - - - - - - s-

Check

s/24.0 = 8/1.6

120 /24 = 5

5 = 5

- - - - - -s-

I would just work out 8.0/1.6 on the right hand side first. 8.0/1.6 = 5.
Then multiply each side by 24 to leave only 's' on the left hand side. s = 24.0*5.0
therefore,
s = 120

s=120

(s/24.0 = 8.0/1.6
s/24=8/(16/10)
s/24 = 8*10/16
s=(80/16)*24
s=(16*5/16)*24
s=5*24
s=120.)

cross multiply
1.6 x s = 24 x 8.0
divide both sides by 1.6
s =(24 x 8.0)/1.6
solve
s=120

Hope that helps!
