The dress is really long, nearly past my feet.

You know it is up to you.
If you are not used to wearing high heels, your feet will really be hurting by the end of the night. If you are used to heels they will hurt just a little.
This is what every woman experiences when they start attending all their girlfriends weddings. The heels come off and bare feet prevail on the dance floor. A prom doesn't sound like a place where shoes will be coming off. I went to 3 and that was what I remember.
If your date is short, you may feel awkward with the extra 3 inches in height. I'm 5'11 but luckily always had tall dudes as dates. I had 2.5 inch heels the first time and my feet were killing me all night. I went down to a cute flat for the next two.

Well I think alot of the girls end up taking off there shoes while dancing late in the evening anyway so I think you should opt with flats and have the dress altered to fit with the flats. That way if you take you shoes off you won't be dragging your dress.
But personally I think heels look classier. Good Luck

that depends on how tall your date is?
if youre taller than your date I'd go with some ballet flats, a very low kitten heel, or some pretty jewled sandals.
if not do what makes you feel comfy
I'm 5'10" I wore heels to my prom and I was taller than my date and the pics look weird. But the minute we started dancing my shoes came off.

well it depends if u want what the dress looks like but
u should wear heels
and make sure the heels match the dress

i think that when you wear heals with long dresses it looks nice cos the length between the dress and shoe is extended unlike flats

It's important to be comfortable..if you have time, find a pump shoe, and get the dress altered..
