I find it strange it took this country so long to decide racial discrimination and violence to women and children is a crime....technologically advanced and socially retarded, I reckon.

The society to prevent cruelty to animals was formed in 1865. Under the laws to prevent cruelty to animals, a women named Etta Angell Wheeler in New York brought the first case of child abuse. The child's name was Mary Ellen and she testified at the trial. Later, in 1874 the Society to prevent cruelty to children was formed. The law evolved slowly from that point. In 1967 all 50 states had mandatory reporting of physical child abuse. In 1970 the mandatory reporting laws began expanding to include sexual child abuse. The law continues to evolve and some states now include emotional abuse as a crime against children. Thanks for asking this question, it is important to know where we have been in order to figure out in what direction we must go.

The reason we only really started observing child abuse and similar prosecutions in the last 50 years is mainly because of the evolution of the age someone is considered a child.

Less than a century ago, most people got married around 12-14 you know. So the terminology wasn't applicable.

Also, as you already know, the religious system still took more place in our society than the judicial system which mainly handled theft and murder. This made the parents to be considered rulers of their family because of the 10 commandments.

And the religion wanting to keep people under it's dogma, always tried to take control of all issues. Referring to the legal system would have reduced their power.

My very own myth is that toddler molesters be castrated, then do 20 years with out the possibility of parole. The castration area might make all molesters think of two times formerly committing that crime returned. The 20 years might shop the perp out of circulate long adequate for thier sufferer(s) to mature into adults with out fearing yet another attack from the comparable perp.

I am not sure about that, but I do know that many systems, including the educational and judicial, have now their hands tied behind their backs because they see that the actions to prevent abuse are now so stretched that kids are more empowered than they can handle
