I keep getting the "service engine soon light" (I had it read and it said it was either the o2 sensor or catalytic converter). The car seems to be running absolutly fine but I don't want to damage the engine.

The code is important as to which sensor needs to be replaced. The back sensor some times rusts and is impossable to remove. However the front sensor near the fire wall in back exhaust is almost easy and plugs in on top of the engine lift bracket. Sound like a P0420 Cat converter code. I do not reccomend after market sensors for that car they do not respond quickly enough. AC-Delco just work better

2003 sensors should come out pretty easy. Get the good OEM ones. Auto Zone has them for about $85 apiece. Your engine might run a little lean, but it probably won't hurt it much.
You might want to check the wires and connectors too. A cruddy connector can have a partial short or open and trip the code.
