Yes. It happens most of the time. When a person thinks he/she loves somebody because he/she has some good qualities, I think there is liking more than love. True love is unconditional.

I think your question is more to do with semantics than philosophy. Liking someone is surely a weaker attraction than loving them.

I love my wife and I love my friends - I like my work colleagues and those that become my friends I will then love as I grow to like them more.

So I guess the answer to your question is no, because when you like someone more it turns to love.

Maybe you have just a crush on him or her.
Crush means looking for a characteristics that you do not have in yourself. Theb when tou found that you declared him or her as your crush.
