Depends on the situation... why are you doing it???

Is it because the room is too warm? Then yes. (Like people have said don't let it blow at the baby's face or it might make it hard to breathe [Plus would you want a fan blowing in your face while you tried to sleep?] Please don't listen to the "thick blankets" comment. Heavy blankets can smother a baby and aren't recommended in a crib because of the risk of SIDS.)

If it's because the noise is soothing then I'd say look for another option where the baby can't get a chill. We use a heartbeat sound machine, and a friend of mine uses a fish tank where the bubbles from the filter provide a constant hum.

Right since day one we'd play music at naptimes and put on a heartbeat sound through the night. (http://www.sleepmachinesplus.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ProductId=56) The baby learned the difference, knew what it meant when the different sounds were playing and did exactly what she had to do from about 3 weeks. She'd sleep for 1-2 hours with the music and 8-10 with the heartbeat.

NEVER play the night sound during the day though or it screws everything up... we brought the heartbeat sound to a babysitter's during the day once knowing that it got her to sleep and it took us a few nights to undo THAT mistake.

Take care

Hi, It depends on the temperature and where the baby sleeps. In Chicagoland its been getting cold at night and we turn the heat down to 68 so it gets nippy in the house and my husband sleeps with the fan on ussually all night but when we had our son I asked him to refrain putting on the fan till I take the baby out of the room. Fans can make the air very cold and also the speed of the fan can make it hard for the baby to breathe. If you co sleep I would say having a fan on is a bad idea or if the bed ur baby is in is in direct from the blowing its a bad idea. Otherwise enjoy the fan. Just make sure you check on the baby until you know how it effects him. Good Luck

If the weather is hot and stuffy enough that a fan is needed, that is fine. Just don't leave it blowing directly on the child or it's bed. I usually leave it pointed up higher, since cool air falls. Also make sure the baby is dressed so that they will stay cool, but not get too cold if the fan is on all night.

Yes, it gives fresh air if you leave the window open a tiny bit and the fan on. Make sure the fan faces away from the face because it may cause his breath to go against him and he may suffocate if you're not careful. Also, make sure the blankets covering them are quite thick otherwise your baby will get ill from being cold all the night. Hope this helps :-)

even when the weather is really hot, it is not good to sleep with a fan pointing at you because your body temperature drops and you feel cold in the middle of the night. I always end up switching it off, when I try this.

The baby obviously can't do anything about it, so don't leave it on all night. Maybe have it on until he is asleep then turn it off.

Is it a ceiling or floor fan? The baby may now be used to sleeping with it. Its called "white noise". Our grandson has always slept under a ceiling fan from the day he was born and he is just fine. Just keep it on low.

my daughter was born in the summer and had she fan on in the room from birth now she is used to the noise etc so i just have to make sure she is very wrapped up throughout the night so she doesnt get cold.

the main worry about a fan is the draught so dont point a fan at the child.

its better to leave a window ajar
why is it very hot in the room?
when it was very hot this summer i had barely anything on the children-window open-i put their sheet in the freezer for a bit dressed the bed so the sheet would evaporate cool water onto their boiling skin
if your baby is feverish have light layers that you can remove
dont let the baby get shivery though just cool

Well it depends upon the weather. If its cold then its completely silly to switch on the fan for the whole night. You can judge it yourself
