Definitions of Batch Processing:

Conducting a group of computer tasks at one time, instead of throughout the day.

A type of data processing operation and data communications transmission where related transactions are grouped together and transmitted for processing, usually by the same computer and under the same application; generally regarded as non-real-time data traffic consisting of large files.

A collection of credit card transactions saved for submitting at one time, usually each day. Merchants who do not have real-time verification systems must submit their transactions manually through a POS machine (Point Of Sale). Batch fees are charged to encourage a merchant to submit his or her transactions at one time, rather than throughout the day.

The performing of a group of computer tasks at the same time.

To execute a series of non-interactive jobs simultaneously is batch processing. Usually batch jobs are stored up during working hours and then executed during the evening or whenever computers are idle.

This occurs when a merchant transmits the "batch" of daily sales for processing. An "open" Batch is one that is not yet "closed." Batching generally occurs at least once per day. ^

Automated cleaning of an existing address database to complete partial addresses and correct incorrect records.

a mode of data processing in which data is gathered over a period of time and aggregated for subsequent sequential processing.

Transaction processing in which transactions are gathered and stored for later execution.

Operations performed to more than one image at a time. For example, resizing a group of images. ACDSee digital photo software can perform a wide variety of batch processing functions.

The processing of groups of similar data or jobs as a single unit rather than individually.

The processing of a group of transactions at the same time. Transactions are collected and processed against the master files at a specified time.

A repetitive processing of data or files by using only one command.

A method of running a program or a series of programs in which one or more records (a batch) are processed with little or no action from the user or operator. Contrast with interactive processing.

Grouped computer tasks scheduled to take place at the same time.

The name of the technique used to input a large amount of information in a single step, as opposed to individual processes.

This is a common form of processing in electricity or telephone systems. The data is held in batches and processing takes place continuously without human intervention.

the serial execution of computer programs

Batch processing is the sequential execution of a series of programs ("jobs") on a computer. The term batch originated in the days when programmers wrote code on paper forms which would be keypunched onto 80-column punch cards or paper tape. The cards or tape would then be passed to the system operator ("sysop") who would schedule the task and later stage feed the program into the computer. ...

in semiconductor manufacturing, batch processing is used where the process is either very stable or not very important. Wet process for example. Wet processing uses baths of acid to clean or etch silicon wafers. These baths typically clean a "batch" of upwards of 200 wafers. Dry Etch, on the other hand is a critical step which can only be accomplished one wafer at a time.
