Wanting to do this today (i know they charge). It is a cheque for my wages from work and has A/C Payee in between the two line where you write the amount in writing. Will this stop them from cashing it or is it ok still?

Thanks.

if it has been printed then i should be okay....depends very much on the person behind the counter i would think though.

when you give a chq to a shop and they print it, it never prints exactly on the lines and they still get their money...and cos its a work cheque it should be no prob

Yes they will most likely do this for you, as you say for a charge.

They act like a Bank by effectively opening an account for you, allow you to pay the cheque in (subject to an endorsement on the rear of the cheque) and withdraw the balance of your funds.

Yes this completely defeats the purpose of the 'account payee only' endorsement and the crossing of the cheque, but at least the 'cheque - a - shop' is taking all the risks!

Most employers are prepared to allow employees to cash any wages cheques at their Bank's local branch free of charge subject to a payslip and ID. Have you asked if you can do this and avoid a charge?
