What a ridiculous question! I suspect you have never bought a house or a new(ish) car, otherwise you would have some insight into how laborious a process it is; buying a house can take months, and the waiting list for decent brand new cars is usually about 3 months.

On top of the timescale, you have to think about the cost of the product. The design, manufacture, marketing and presentation of a car/house is all displayed within it's cost price, which tends to be considerably more than a packet of Penguins.

Fool!

I am dissapointed at the people who have said "fool" or some such without really thinking it through.

Although as a general rule with houses, the shortage of supply means that such a deal is not needed - there ARE occasions where developers have to raise finance fast and do indeed offer upto 50% discount for multiple purchases. It is rare indeed but it happens from time to time - I have bought at 25% discount a couple of times.

With cars, I am surprised that this hasn't happened - a new model comes that is priced such that they can "give one away" for each one sold. Sure it might be obviously a gimmick, but it would get some great press coverage. "The new Squaggle from Nuvvacar, during January, buy one for $20,000 and get one free"

The regular answer though is that as a rule, demand is so high for houses you don't need to discount that much - and unless you are an investor, most folks would not want two houses - so would want discunt off one - rather than have a spare house to sell!

I guess the same with cars, though perhaps husband and wife might like matching cars?

Not a silly question though, quite a thought provoking one.

Deedubbya: Before you get all arrogant and condescending, check your history: it has happened!
Circa the late 1980's/early 1990's the U.S. motor industry was in an abysmal state with inefficient production, poor management marketing forecasts, lost market share to better imported products, and gross over-production to sales.
In order to solve its problems, promote sales, and reduce overstocks of unsalable vehicles, one manufacturer (Ford, I think from memory) offered "Buy a wagon, get a free compact pickup" deal for some months.
As this occurred prior to popular use of the Internet many of the records may not have been entered into web-pages which inhibits ready research unless you are prepared to make extensive enquiries.
Regarding houses, whilst not rare , it is uncommon but nevertheless still occurs that some times two properties are exchanged for one. This most often happens between lifestyle "sea-changers" whereby two rural properties or one rural and one beach/holiday/cabin retreat are exchanged for one metropolitan property. Sometimes the transaction involves money as well but sometimes a straight swap of titles -- duly notarised and legally accepted -- may occur as a direct barter.

Do your research and be sure of facts before you open your mouth, clown.
Who's the ignorant fool now, moron?

Two for one offers are come ons to get you into the store so that you will buy other things that the store makes more profit on. There isn't enough profit in houses and cars for them to offer two for one and they don't have other things that you could buy to make up the loss they take on the two for one deals.

Because 2 for 1 offers are always on products you don't really want or need, in order for them to sell more. We all need houses and cars, so there is no need to put them on offer.
