you didn't state what type of pump you have. If it is a Petastal type (moter on top,pipe,pump on bottom) it will be float controled. try pushing float rod down.or on older models,float on on wire.If pump doesn't stop switch in defective.
if you have submersable pump(pump under water,just power wire above)the level switch is internal and will require pump disassembly.

Either the float is bad or the switch is sticking or bad. You can unplug the pump, and then check it again in a bit to see if the water is filling up the sump hole. Just plug it back in to pump the water out. You can do this until someone can fix the problem. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Perhaps you need a check valve in the outlet pipe. This will keep water from running back to the pump.

YOU HAVE A BAD FLOAT ON THE PUMP. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CUT OFF SENSOR. EVERY SUMP PUMP HAS A FLOAT

the cut out sensor is clogged, clean it.
or the micro switch is defunct change it
to stop the pump switch off the power to it
replace or maintain the items above regards LF
