Hello! I'd suggest the Skyfari aerial tram for a great view of the zoo and Balboa Park...also the guided bus tour, if it's your first time there. There is a LOT of walking involved in seeing the zoo...my husband and I spent five hours there the first time we went. Definitely wear comfortable shoes for all of the walking you'll be doing.

On a side note, in case you have kids, I just wanted to let you know (if you didn't know already) that October is Kid's Month at the zoo, which means that kids aged 3-11 get free admission with a paid adult admission thru Oct. 31. Pretty good deal if you're planning to take your kids!

Anyway, I digress. I think the best attraction was the panda! Super cute. There was a huuuuuuuge line to go in to see the panda. I also liked the flamingos and the polar bear tank. The elephants were pretty cool, too. I was kind of underwhelmed by the aviary, so unless you're a bird fan, I'd put the birds down lower on your list than the rest.

Have fun! Oh, and here is a link to the webpage if you need it:

the tiger exhibit! when you first walk in you'll see the flamingos, koalas are to your right and the reptile exhibit as well as the entrance to the tigers is on your left (i forget what it is called). absolutely amazing!
the panda exhibit is actually just looking at them, kinda boring unless you really like pandas
the aviary is really neat too
i love going through the bears for some reason, the polar bears are pretty cool, but there's a whole line of lots of different kinds of them. the whole area of bears and the other animals there is pretty cool
monkey's are always fun too.
don't forget to bring lots of your own water - it's expensive there! the food is only so-so so i would suggest bringing your own food too if possible.

if you've never been, deffinately go, but if you have been - skip it this time & go to balboa park. (or better yet, do both) the reuben h. fleet center has the imax dome movie theater and an interactive science area - that was my favorite place to go growing up in SD

It is a great zoo - best bit for me was the polar bear pool with underwater viewing.
