I don't know much about these things I only know what I want them to do. I have a budget up to about £350. I don't want a big phone. I'd like it mainly to be a phone, but also a diary/organiser.
It might be handy if it was a camera also, but not as important.

I don't want the buttons to be too small and awkward.

'cuse me...he's a nokia guy "cos he's got a $400 budget", u never stop u nokia people.

anyway,i gave ur question a thump up cos it's one of the most detailed, if not the most, i've seen since i came on answers.

7610 has very awkward keypads...what fashion has done to basics. well, most phones nowadays come with organisers and calenders and at 350, u'll get a very good one but there are a lot to choose from.

my best bet will be the m600 (sony ericsson). it's got a touch screen with hand writing recognition, large and quality screen, certainly its got an organiser, a very good OS UIQ 3.0, it fits right into the palm, it doesn't have a camera though but believe me, it's a simple looking powerhouse.

i chose this from (my list of) sony ericssons w950i, p990i (both too expensive), nokias e61, e62 (not too user friendly). find more info on m600 in d links below, cheers and goodluck finding d phone 4 u.

Go in the shop and try them! make sure the buttons are easy to press. before you start though ask around and see if you need to go with a particular network. I did that and I get a good signal as a result. When you try the phone make sure you don't have to go through loads of menus to get to the phone book. If it has a camera - make sure the pictures are reasonable or they are a waste of time. A camera phone is a good idea if you are in a car accident to take pictures - or even take pictures of the local yobs you may need to identify to the cops. Don't get stung on a contract - that will leave you paying a fortune every month. make sure you can lock the keys. My neighbour kept making calls just pressing the keys while his phone was in his pocket - that cost him £70! I find black keys with white lettering the best. Silver keys in sunlight are a nightmare!

Nokias are best for this sort of thing, but all the phones have small buttons these days. All will have calendars, cameras, messages (send/receive) & display time & date. Go for flip or slider phones, so the keys don't keep pressing themselves in your bag/pocket. All phones will be within your budget, but cheaper if you go with a contract (not pay-as-you-go). However, this depends how much you'll be using it.

You seem like a Nokia guy. Any standard NOKIA phone will be good for your needs. I'd suggest NOKIA 6270.

Good luck.
