you cant is the simple answer...
1, if you have a OS disk you can re-install over the top of the existing password and enter your own.
2, there are normally a few back door things to try.
Username= Administrator Password="nothing just hit enter"
Username= Administrator Password=Administrator
Username= Administrator Password=Admin
if none of this works then your only option is to re-install the OS
to do this re-boot the laptop with the OS disk in the drive and press the key when prompted for boot up options (F2, F10 or Escape depending on the make)

Like others have stated, log in as Administrator with out password. this may artwork on condition that an Administrator password has no longer been created. rather of starting up in secure mode, press CTRL+Alt+Del two times. Now that the word is out, each and every man or woman create an Administrator password.

Sounds like an ex corporate laptop - probably running w2000.
I don't know how to rearrange it without the domain, perhaps as you have a completely new machine with nothing on it yet, this would be a good time to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system from scratch.
Apart from anything else it would ensure that you really don't have anything malicious left over from previous users.

Turn on your computer and some how get to start up options - u do this by like clicking F12 or F10 depends on what it tells you when the manufacturer logo appears.
Select start up in "Safe Mode"
When the computer loads up in safe mode, you will see that there is a new user account called "Administrator". This will have no password but has limited features designed to fix problems.
Under safe mode administrator, go to Start >>> Control Panel>>> user accounts>>> and go to your account and REMOVE PASSWORD.
Then all you do is restart normally, log on to your account w/no password, and make a new one!!!

Sounds like it is still trying to access the domain that it was setup on.
At the login screen there should be a drop down box next to domain, select login in locally/this computer.
If it is not there try going to advance and doing the same thing
Let me know if you need any more help!!!

It might be best to format the laptop and reinstall windows. This is good practise as you don't want your daughter to be using a machine who's contents you are not aware of. The laptop's origins appear dubious and it might also have spyware etc on it and if you connect it to the net you might be inviting a whole world of trouble.

i think u must try to type a username of your choice and then type a password of your choice . If u can't then u won't be able to log on . if the people don't want to tell u the password, then report to the p0lice.

If you have multiple logons to the machine as in multiple user accounts, then it will prompt you each time. for a single user it doesnt and ur OS loads automatically.

the generic password for user is "password"... change the password to a blank
also, try logging in as "admin" using either "password" or "admin" as the password
