My friends have recently completed an legal research project. Their results are simply amazing. In a nutshell, they have discovered a 6th major overseas territory of the USA!! Yes, this is an inhabited geographic area where the US flag should be flying!!! (Currently, the five major overseas territories of the USA are: Am. Samoa, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.)

They even hired a law firm to do a verification. The law firm staff were shocked!!! After a month, the lawyers confirmed that according to the US Constitution and international law, this is indeed a 6th major overseas US territory!! As of Oct. 24, 2006, they have filed suit against the USA in the US District Court in Wash. D.C. to clarify this entire situation!!!

A website has been set up. Now the problem is: how can I (aaaexpansion@yahoo.com) help them find newspaper, magazine, or other media people who would be interested in this story? It is bigger than Watergate!!!

Try writing an op-ed yourself! If you get published, not only will other people know about it, but you will get some credit as well.

Lots of newspapers don't accept unsolicited op-eds, but some second-tier newspapers in the US like as the Baltimore Sun or the Dallas Morning News do, and if you have any local affiliation, use that as well.

You sound excited about this, so use that energy to write a good piece!

WOW! This sounds very exciting. A few things come to mind. First of all, you will probably get nowhere with major media outlets right at first. I'd suggest they go with their own local papers. Go to the editor. President them with the information and make a case. The larger newspapers will often pick up stories from local papers and they thereby get broader national attention. You might also think about contacting your local Associated Press. News outlets of all sorts and sizes subscribe to this service and might pick up on it.

One other thing, it sounds to me like this story would be perfect for the National Georgraphic Channel. See if you can contact their public relations office. None of this is easy. You'll have to do a lot of leg work to get the attention of the media.

Go get 'em.

Call each of the major television, radio and news outlets. Ask to speak with someone on the Assignment Desk. They may not put your call through, but, you can try.
