It is a legal minefield! First find a solicitor who specialises in copyright law. You have to consider the copyright of the artist and of the songwriter. The first link I've given you is the PRS. the performing Rights society - they may have some info that will help. Personally, I know of lots of performers and singers that are good and can't get recording contracts. So if you can get them recorded then put their songs on a website as MP3s at a reasonable price - I think that would do well. I've given my website as a source - listen to the background music with Internet explorer (won't work with Firefox). You can then go to another site and download the music free. But whether that is a copyright infringement or not. I am not sure. First, I haven't been able to establish who the song writers are and secondly, I have been told I may have to pay to use the MP3 format. I assume the MP3 format has a patent. Some people use ogg files instead. Good luck, I think you will need it. I have also seen some great mobile recording studios that plug in to the USB2 port on your laptop. I'm thinking of getting one. Your major problem too is you will have problems with VAT and the Inland revenue service - although the latter aren't as bad as their reputation - if you're nice to them! But generally speaking in the UK, enterprise in my personal opinion is stifled by government.
