Does anyone know what is up with it and is it easily fixed.

Check the water levels are OK. The system in older Fords used the coolant from the radiator etc to work the heater.

If the heat used to work, but now it doesn't ever, then more than likely your heater core has gone out. It is a small box that the hot coolant from the engine runs through, feeding heat to your vents. Unfortunately, it is an expensive fix (or will take you a lot of time) because most are buried under the dash, near your feet, on the inside of the vehicle, and it takes a lot of labor just to get to the core.
