You know damn well there is a multitude of gay mechanics, truck drivers, dock workers, fork lift drivers, constuction workers. Its like you, you can only be gay if you're typing on a spreadsheet in an office. These blue collar people need to get a serious grip on themselves. I'm sorry, but you cannot work out at the boatyard and be out of the closet, its just too dangerous.

How do you know there is a multitude of gay mechanics, truck drivers, dock workers, fork lift drivers, construction workers? That is an awfully big assumption. Lets say for the sake of argument that you are correct, I would think it would be very difficult to be openly gay in some of those environments.

Agnostic Messiah hit the nail on the head. The work environments you mentioned are usually hostile towards gays/lesbians. But I've been a fork lift operator, truck driver and now work in a manufacturing plant. In all of these occupations I've been totally out and had no problems.

I see you have a narrow view of life...I used to ask people at work what do lesbians and mechanics have in common?
We both use Strap On Tools! LOL!
Then my coworkers would wonder, is she a lesbian? I know lots of men and women in the trades that are out and about.Seriously, who's going to mess with someone who works with their muscles everyday? Maybe they have a death wish?
I've never been "IN" the closet,so I never needed to come out. It's the "red collar" re: rednecks workers that hold strange opinions like this...but I digress...after years of being openly gay, I now know gay rednecks...is that an oxymoron? Sort of like gay republicans...lol!

well it's a good question but what do you mean...that because certain people are gay that they are not able to hold certain types of jobs? I know lots of gay men who are in the trades industries..and yes it is much harder in some cases for them to come out...but the world is more and more coming around to the maturity that they can accept that someone they work with sleeps with the same sex...I've found that most don't care...people who are happy with their own sexuality rarely give a damn about someone elses...after all, why would I care who anybody is sleeping with if I am not involved?

i don't know about the 'multitudes', but i know a few gay mechanics, truck drivers, and construction workers that are out of the closet.
but if you want to think that blue collar workers never come out of the closet, then it seems to me that you give a possible answer with your last statement.

I think those who have the strength to withstand the abuse and criticism, are out. For others, maybe it just doesn't matter at work. I work in an office, with several gay men, none of which are open about their sexuality. I do have a pic of my g/f on my desk, but none of them, even though they have long term relationships do.
I think coming out and being open is a personal choice, and should not be judged unless its being used to harm someone else.

Gee, maybe because only 3 to 4% of the adult population is GAY?
I dunno where you learned your math, but 03 or 04% is NOT a multitude.
