Hello Bongo,
I think that you should not do anything out of the ordinary with your PC, do what you did before you became separated from the socket. Keep all lines of communication open with the socket and so the normal things you did with the pc when you had more time together. And treat the pc occasionally, you don't want to spoil it with overloading to many treats.

If you only get a few hours a week, I would think some private time may be in order.
Gaze at its screen,
tap its keys ( thats what they are there fo after all),
reboot a few times.
One on One attention is what it really longs for.

For under $400....you could gain custody again sit at home---listen to music be warm and cozy in your puter chair----never having to leave the house until it's time to go to work :)

Treat it many upgrades and buy its affections back New hard drive and mouse may be a keyboard.
A brand new case it make it look cool so all the computers will be impressed and be its friend.
