Yahoo! Groups Photos 2.0 Starting in late November, we began a phased upgrade of Yahoo! Groups photos. The upgrades will continue to roll out through January 2006. Here is what you'll see with the upgrade:
Photos Vitality When new photos are added to a group, we will alert you on the Group Home Page in the same way that we already do for new messages, members, files, and links.
New Photos Page To make it easier to find the new photos, we're also creating a special "New Photos" page, which will display all the photos uploaded to a group in the last seven days.
Increased Moderator Power Moderators who want to approve photos before they are uploaded to the group will have the power to do so.
Bigger Views Currently, photos can only be viewed as thumbnails and a "screen size" view (approx. 400 x 300 pixels). We will be offering a new "large" view that will be up to twice as big!
More Photos Currently, we store the original photos posted to Groups even though we don't display them to anyone but the Group Moderator. Now, we will only store the smaller display images, rather than the originals, which will mean more space for more pictures.
Albums Not Folders Photos will now be stored in "albums" rather than folders. Albums will now look better, they will display the first photo in the album as a cover photo, and the owners of an album will have the ability to resort the photos.
However, the change also means you will no longer be able to place a photo album in another photo album, nor add photos to a group without putting them in an album. For existing groups that are using these features, folders in your group's photo area that are currently stored in other folders will be brought to the top level; while photos that are currently not in any folder will be automatically added to a new album called "Miscellaneous".
