Eyes need exercise. Staring at one localized are for a long time gives them no exercise. Another issue is how close your screen is. Opthamologists speculate that concentration on viewing things which are too close causes near-sightedness. I think the sore and teary results from an overly intense display. Use the monitor adjust buttons to mellow it a bit. I assume you meant every 15 "minutes" - your eyes need to focus far away for a while but they also need up/down and side to side movement. Just staring at something far away is still letting most of the eye muscles do nothing.

I too see a wonderful world around me, but one that was at least partly made that way by human ingenuity, intelligence and creativity. The purely natural world, as aesthetically beautiful as it is, is also quite hostile to us furless, physically weak apes with large food requirements.
There is no room for gods or other superstitions in my world. Science, logic and rational thought have given us extensive knowledge of the world we live in and with every increase in knowledge comes a decrease in the need to rely on some ever-diminishing "god of the gaps". And yet, my world is no less wondrous and beautiful than yours. Beauty does not require a make-believe creator. It exists quite well on its own.

I can see the following:
1. TV screen showing BBC World, 4-firefighters died while putting off fire in USA. Bangladeshi PM is working for her last day in office.
2. My spectacles (reading glass) lying beside empty tea-cup on my table.
3. Piles of plastic folders containing pending mails and information sheets etc.
4. Telephone sets and fax machine alongside my mobile-phone on its rest.
5. White boards on the wall at left and right side of the table with messages posted as well as pictures (company meetings and get-togethers photos) stuck with adhesive tapes.
I am wearing 'fatua' as short-sleeved Punjabi (casual wear), with 'Lungi' since today is after-Eid day holiday and I am working from downstairs office room.
Now I say to myself that thanks God that we are alive, healthy, well fed and having shelters for our family when so many people are suffering for these basic necessities in our country as well as throughout the world.

I can't see much other than my computer desk, which is quite disheveled at the moment. The computer room is in a cubby in our basement. I can see that it is still dark outside because it is only 5:15 AM.

Well, the first and only thing I see is my daughter curled up and asleep in my lap, because everything else is unimportant compared to her.
And I can say to myself that I'm the happiest dad in the world.

A completely messed-up room. So I think: what am I doing with my life? Why don't I take myself seriously?
