I had Femur fracture and doctor did IM Nailing with two screws up and two screws down. How much time it takes for a patient like me of 21 years old. How do I find whether the progress is in right direction and what are indications for infection.

Well you should heal pretty quick. My brother who is 34 broke his he was on crutches for a while but was back on his feet and going in about 6 wks - 8 wks. Your gonna have good days and bad. Make sure that you ask your Dr. about therapy for the injury. If you start to notice any redness out of the ordinary or your incisions becomes hot to the touch these are main signs of infection. Just make sure that you keep the wound clean even though it may be uncomfortable. Also make sure that if you have any problems that you call the Dr. right away.

Your doctor "locked " the nail with those two screws up and 2 down. Probably more than 2 fragments in the fracture. Like any femur, it should heal in about a year's time provided no complications like infection, re-fracture, or broken implants which could led to delayed or non-union. Your doctor will usually ask you to come in for checkup regularly say every 3 or 6 months to see the progress. Don't worry. If your doctor is good, you should have no problems, provided you are a good patient also and do nothing to abuse your healing bone.
