I did a test, waited 3 minutes, got a negative and chucked the test in the bathroom bin. I emptied the bin the following night and instead of the single horizontal line which meant it was negative, I saw a horizontal line and a faint vertical line. Could this mean i am only just pregnant (I did do the test too early but I just couldnt wait!!!) or do you think the line appeared cos it was thrown in the bin?

you could possibly be. but any result that appears after about 5 or ten minutes is not accurate, so if i were you i would take another test. BUT, just to let you know, when i was pregnant with my son i took 4 tests, as i was so sure i was pregnant, it was too early to detect and they were all negative, on the fifth, there was one clear red line and one very very faint red line. so, i waited till the next day and the same happened, except the line was not as faint. again i waited till the next day and then the line was a definate red. in total i took 8 tests, 4 were negative as it was too soon. they go off hormone levels you see so as the embryo develops, higher amounts are detected in you urine. so i would give it a couple of days if you get a negative result but you are thinking you may be pregnant. there are other signs to look for such as -

• 10. Tender, swollen breasts- or changes in nipple colouration.
• 9. Fatigue- you may just be knackered and need an early night when usually you could be ok for a few more hours
• 8. Implantation bleeding (like a very light period)
• 7. Nausea or vomiting and going "off" certain foods or drink- a lot of women go off alcohol.
• 6. Increased sensitivity to odors- i couldnt stand the smell of washing powder or even my own husband!! he didnt smell bad, my senses were just out of whack!
• 5. Abdominal bloating
• 4. Frequent urination- and changes in bowel activity- diarrehoea or constipation without clear cause.
• 3. A missed period
• 2. Your body temperature stays high
• 1. The proof: A positive home pregnancy test

sometimes tests can be faulty, but usually a positive result within a few minutes of the test taking place means you are definately pregnant- even if the line is very faint!!

Hi, I know this feeling I am 30 weeks pregnant at the moment. I did a test which showed a negative result but was not convinced so I did another test and this time it showed positive however the line was very faint but it was there. I think that you maybe pregnant so it maybe worth doing a test at the doctors. Hope this helps

That happened to me at the Doctors surgery when i did the test, it came out negative then they threw it in the bin and another Health worker came in and said have they done it, i said yes but negative so she checked and fair enough i had double lines and i was definately pregant, so get it checked again and wait a bit longer or if you dont want to do that go and get a blood check test at the Doctors which will give definate results.

i no its hard 2 wiat isnt it!if u still have the box read the leaflet u get with it i have read on a test before that once it has been sitting fro a certain lenght of time i.e. like hours it can become incorrect so this may be what happemed. but i think u should also test again just to make sure seeing as u said u did the test early this one is should be more accurate as its at the correct time wait till after ur period is due.

I think your best chance of the correct result is if you look at the test stick within minutes of doing the test. It should say on the box that if left for several hours the test stick could change due to the environment.

If the second line didn't show up in the time written on the package, then you're not pregnant or its too early for you to test. The second line you saw is probably an evaporation line = not pregnant.

That sounds like an evaporation line, look at www.peeonastick.com for more info on that. Basically, for now you should consider this test negative, and take another one in a few days.

Sounds like an evaporation line. If you want to avoid this you might find that it's better to use a test with pink dye instead of blue - you get fewer of those confusing evaporation lines!

Maybe, my suggestion would be to go out and buy another test, and this time, do it properly, it'll be worth the wait (3-4 minutes!) just for piece of mind either way :)

Man, if you're that dumb, I sure hope you aren't!
When you threw the test kit in the garbage, you corrupted the sanitary status of the test itself. If you want to know whether the positive was false or accurate, retest yourself over a period of several days. Even if a home kit tests negative, they still aren't accurate enough to bet the farm on, so if you test positive twice in a row, go to a doctor and have it done professionally. Good luck!
