Is that a true and accurate reflection of life in southern America?

It is probably a highly exagerated version of Southern life in the US based on Characters known to the writers from towns all over America not just the South. All TV acting is exagerated and just based on reality. After all acting and performing is an art form. It only imitates life!!!

That said, I loved the series (And Bo Duke hmmmmm....!!!)

The creator and producer of the show, Gy Waldron, did intend it to accurately reflect life in the South, at least life in the South of the 1970s. And his intention was very much to reflect life in Georgia, though his major influence, former moonshiner Jerry Rushing, was from North Carolina. The first five episodes were filmed in Georgia, and that look and feel were duplicated as much as possible when the show moved its filming to Burbank in 1979. I think, from my perspective, watching the show when I was just a kid, and in the North(!), Hazzard County felt like any small town in the middle of nowhere -- North or South. The accents were different, but the pace of life was really the same. The traditional values were the same. And nowadays, I live in Georgia, and there are definitely folks I see here that could have walked right off the "Dukes" set, even though so many years have passed!

no I don't know the Dukes of Hazzard but when I was little, I used to think I was related to them! My nan used to go on about Daisy and Jesse, her relative, and the only Daisy and Jesse I knew were the ones off Dukes of Hazzard - so, I thought they were my cousins or something!

I recently told my dad this and he thought it was hilarious. Odd what you get in yer head when you're a kid huh.

ok so I see you have about a few people saying yes and if you believe them and go saying this to other people they will think you are a fool, no it is not an accurate description of life in the south, not even close, it was a fictional story made for television

No. The moonshining part is accurate but not the rest of the show. How many people's lives would be interesting enough to actually have a t.v. show about?
