I live in the country in northeastern Texas. Many trees here and all sorts of wild life. The people are very country and pretty laid back. The religious community is very large, but somewhat closed, that is to say if you go to the "preferred" churches, well then good, if not, you may be viewed as an outsider. Being in the country and away from the nearby town, we only go to town infrequently, preferring to stay near home and the lake nearby. We fish, my husband has a small garden, we so much enjoy our pets and watching all the other creatures.
Life is good! Thank you God!

I live in Essex (yes I am an Essex girl!) and it is not at all how it is portrayed. I was born and bred here. I live close to a town but also close to the country so I have the best of both worlds. It is very central - 35 mins by train to London, 25 mins to nearest beach. We have all the usual amenities such as theatre, cinema, bowling etc. It is a nice place to live and on the whole people are friendly. It is quite expensive though - council tax and housing.

I live on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. There isn't much to do here if you are local. If your a tourist, then you'll probably be attracted to the mountains, fishing, the indian craft shops, and the casino. There is an outdoor theatre that tells the story of how the cherokee indians had to move to Oklahoma. I heard that I wasnt that great this summer, alot of the tourists complained about it.
Our town is a tourist magnet. I hate the summers, tourists are everywhere and they drive about 10 miles below the speed limit everywhere. Then in the fall, the tourists come to see the leaves change...and again, they watch from their cars and drive slowly.
I think alot of people get disappointed when they come to Cherokee cause they expect that indians still live in teepees. So, alot of tourists ask 'where are all the indians'?.
The majority of the people here are Indian (as am I), and EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE. Gossip gets around quick..

I live in Hampshire and life is good. I'm near the country, but also near the town...there's soooo much for my children to do within walking distance...bowling, ice skating, swimming, cinema, soft play etc etc. I used to live on the Middlesex/Surrey borders and there was nothing to do for children, hence the higher crime rate! I much prefer living here to there, the people are more friendly, dog's are more friendly so I don't have to worry about mine getting attacked.

I live in Istanbul, Turkey. It's a combination of gorgeous natural georgraphy and ugly man-made urban design. It's noisy, chaotic and stressful yet it has a certain majesty and peacefulness that paradoxically comes from its size and incredible history. Day-to-day life is mostly routine (as it is everywhere, really) - dealing with traffic, etc. - but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

Best part of the UK to live, beaches, woods, surf and almost crime free. The only problem is, everyone knows!
Real locals are fine, people moving here can be "up themselves" because they have "made it".
