Hello guys, I have a US keyboard and my layout is British. I did some research and found out that the British keyboards have two extra keys on them, i.e., the Hash and the Backslash, these two keys are not to be found on the American keyboard. Now I want to use the British Layout on my American keyboard and still be able to get those two keys. Is there any key combination that I can press to come up with these two keys without having to change my layout to US?
Am I making sense? I really hope I do. Cheers

I don't think that is going to work. It would work in reverse, if you had a UK keyboard and wanted a US layout. But as the US layout is missing keys, your only solution is to use keycodes (hold ALT and push in the number on your keypad).
\ = 92
| = 124
# = 35
~ = 126

PS - if you are looking for multi-language support or pound/euro symbols try the US-International layout.

Well, for one thing, the US has $ and the UK has £. Computer keyboards in most countries follow the design of the old typewriter keyboards. They're a bit different in each country especially to account for accented characters, none of which are widely used in the US or UK. If you want to drive yourself nuts, try using a French or Danish keyboard! The primary difference between US and UK keyboard layouts are the shifted characters on the number row. Also the backshash & pipe key \ | is located to the left of the letter Z and the left shift key is half the size that it is on a US keyboard. There are a few other differences but the letter layout is essentially the same.

You have made an error in your research. The US keyboards do have a hash key and a backslash key.

In the UK when they talk about the hash key they are really talking about the pound sign (#)

And the backslash key on a US keyboard is on the top numbers row right next to the "=" sign "\"

The one key they don't have on a US keyboard is the UK pound sign(£) but you can print out this symbol by using the character editor.

To find the character editor click on "start" , "all programs" "accessories" then "system tools"

Hope this helps.

If you are really desperate about using obscure characters, then Windows has installed a character map in the All Programs menu.
Go to Accessories, then find System Tools, look down the list and open up Character Map.Then you can use symbols and stuff that you never even dreamed about having on your keyboard.
There are numerous keyboards available with more or less buttons, depending on the price tag.It pays to have a good look at what you are getting first,if you want any particular type or style.

I'm sorry, but it's not making much sense, mate.

You can have one or the other, not both.

But check yon keyboard first, is what I'd advise.

Cheers.
