If they are not operating a vehicle under the influence then I say no. Alcohol kills so many people and consuming that isn't illegal. I think marijuana should be legal with rules and regulations. Keep jail for the real criminals.

Unless they commit some other crime, no way. Personally I have a very hard time with this issue. I can't believe we live in a society that has wall to wall commercials promoting alcoholic beverages, which kill 100,000 people a year and ruin countless more lives than that, yet we put people in jail for smoking pot, a drug that kills fewer people a year than over the counter drugs like Tylenol.
Of course, if they're driving, put them away. But give me a break. Anyone who answers yes to this question is demonstrating a clear ignorance about marijuana. You can't blame them, however. The US has been demonizing the drug for decades, despite the fact that there has yet to be a single study to demonstrate any dangerous effects on par with alcohol.
Around 50% of violent crime involves alcohol. Around 40% of traffic fatalites involves alcohol. The damage alcohol causes the US every year is immeasurable; it destroys families, tears apart relationships, ends careers, ruins childhoods, and it kills, plain and simple. Yet, in between a barrage of beer commercials, I see these ridiculous 'anti-marijuana' adds suggesting that if you smoke pot your whole life will be over. Its crazy. Even if pot had even a fraction of the harmful effects alcohol has, how would jail time solve anything at all? I have news for you, jail does not cure addiction. Jail just makes people worse, and besides, they are way overcrowded as it is. Save the tax dollars and jail cells for murderers and rapists.
I used to work at a substance abuse facility, long enough to know what drugs are really ruining people's lives. Guess how many people I saw checking themselves in (or being forced to check in) because of marijuana? 0. Zero. Ziltch. Not one. Probably about 30-40% were there for booze, another 30-40% for prescription drugs, and then the rest for heroine, cocaine, etc.
If you disagree, I highly suggest doing some research about it, from objective sources.

I have raised 3 boys and have had my battles with all 3. I have been up endless nights worrying and waiting. My youngest son though has given me hell with the drugs and drinking. He drank smoked pot and WAS addicted to using and making CRANK. He has been in the hospital from overdoses and been in a serous car wreck because of drinking and was really hurt bad, since then has been in several short term re-hab places finally I got him in a long term program THAT SAVED HIS LIFE. I AM HERE TO TELL YOU smoking pot was the least of his problems. I have alot of info from all the programs that I had to go through with him. I would rather any of my kids smoke pot and drive than drinking or any other drug !!! To this day My youngest is off of everything accept pot and he is married has a baby has a good job, IS ALIVE and leads a totally productive and normal life.I`m not saying it`s right but it`s no worse than cigarettes and has alot of medical benefits as far as pain, and nerves. So I say as a grandmother GO FOR IT and don`t clutter up the jails with pot users, they are already crowded enough with real criminals.

Depends on the background. Generally, if the user is good they'll give them rehab, but if the user has failed that, that is when they'll be jailed.
So if you here a pot smoker has been jailed, you can basically be gauranteed it ain't the first time they've been to court.
I agree with the system (the amount of times people have nicked things from me, I have a grudge against those who will steal for any reason but life threatening reasons).

For the last thousand years or so men have used it in 1 way or another. ALL OF US know at least 1 person who smokes it (believe me, everyone does, unless you live in a box), and I am sure beyond doubt that if anyone says "no I don't" you lie.
Weed has not ever killed ANYONE, by itself. There is NO proof that weed leads peep's to other drugs, that is a myth.
It has more potential in our world than most of the world's leaders, and it HAS BEEN KNOWN to have relieved certain illnesses.
So, should I go to jail for having it, or using it?
Other countries laugh at this country because it is so wrapped up in its bul-**** godly ways to open its eyes. HEY, if I can own 3 SP-5 highpoint semi-auto 9mm rifles, I better be able to own a little weed too.

I don't think so unless they're caught driving. That's putting innocent people at risk. Otherwise if people can drink alcohol then they should be able to smoke herb.
Back when I smoked herb everyday, I would take a look around to see what I would be needing (lighters, food, cigs, etc.) and go out and get what I wanted. Then I would come back home and then get high. By planning ahead, I wouldn't need to go out for anything and wouldn't drive high. It's like Samuel L Jackson's character in Jackee Brown said.....he would take care of business, and then get high. Makes sense to me.
One more thing, we're supposed to have freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in this country. That means people are supposed to be free here. Let people live man!

Should women have to wear shirts just because some of us have bigger boobs than men? And you know there are some men out there who can put some of us girls to shame!!!
Pass the dutchie....errr uhhh i mean kutchie....(dutchie being a jamaican cooking pot and kutchie/kouchie being a marijuana pipe) on the left hand side.........pass the kutchie......nuf said?
I'm not a daily, weekly or even monthly partaker, but one thing I will always argue is that alcohol is way, way, way worse than marijuana!!! Government can't control it so therefore it will never be legalized........sad but true!
I wish the Today show or GMA would invite someone on their show and have one person smoke and someone else drink and see who is better off after so much of each......hands down the pot smoker would excel in every test they gave them!
Oh sorry, what was the question......LMAO just kidding......I already answered you in the first paragraph!

No I don't think so. I don't smoke now but I used to, but I am certainly not a criminal. Really that is like locking people up for drinking. Alcohol is just as damaging if not more and that is legal, smoking pot doesn't hurt anyone else, only your own health.

Then Viagra users should also be put in jail, as well as all the people in the world who use antidepressants, alcohol, tea, coffee...
Pot is nothing bad, it even cures some deceases.
