It's all down to these sites getting paid for every person who accepts the stupid toolbar. Just ensure when you download, that you read carefully and remove any ticks from the unnecessary junk that's there.

"kiran" - grow a brain and stop dribbling nonsense simply to scare the crap out of others!

The simple answer is MONEY. Little worth downloading is ever truly free - even if your not paying them anything, there is always some cost involved, such as costs to the developer for host their page. This is where advertising comes in.

Toolbars have become an effective alternative to filling a page with annoying banners and the likes (such as google just loves to do). Toolbars usually provide access to pages or services offered by the advertising party, thus a highly effective means of promoting themselves.

The simple advantage though for the user is that all bar the few illicit ones around, you should be able to easily uninstall them via add/remove programs (in your control panel).

Personally I wouldn't even advise installing either the MSN OR Yahoo toolbars either - both tend to take over as much as many others do and BOTH are difficult to tame. And definitely avoid google's - they get enough opportunities to advertise, let alone handing an invite to your own front door.

I know. It is a bit of a nuisance. Take your time and read all the data when downloading and take the tic off when they ask about toolbars. One toolbar is sufficient.

Probably because they want to install Spyware, Adware and Malware. They could hijack your browser and/or searches i.e. could redirect you to their page all the time.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the toolbars if you can't deselect it at installation.

PS : Google, Yahoo and Windows Live toolbars are 100% safe.
(Only if you download from their respective sites...)
