This is a complex problem. The Industrial revolution in China now will benefit the people and bring them out of communism eventually and in to the world community. But it was funded by the sale of nuclear technology and arms to other countries. The Soviet Union used to do the same thing. Even Western Countries have supplied arms to "friendly forces". The problem was that there were two opposing belief systems - capitalism versus communism. Now we have the Muslim world opposing Capitalism and to a certain extent christianity. Capitalism when it exploits people can be evil, we have seen evil in every religion, we have seen what communism does to communities and nations. This produces conflict - and arms are used to fight for what people believe in. We have to try to understand other peoples beliefs and be more liberal and tolerant. We have to condemn the glorification of weapons and war. Most arms dealers are funded by governments and operate illegally - so stop their funding and maybe they will deal in food instead. It is easier in most African countries to get a gun that a good meal.

In answering Jay Kay's question about arms to unstable countries, I read an answer by a 'Dr. C' . It was a good answer which gave staistics showing the top arms manufacturers , and how much they make from arms. Now it would be ideal not to have wars, and therefore not need arms etc., but there is a counter argument to that , in that the number of people involved in arms manufacture is huge, and theincome from arms manufacture is immense , some of which must go to save lives , build hospitals , schools ,and abroad as foreign aid. So not just a simple 'stop all arms manufacturing'

True, now in order to STOP all arms production WORLD WIDE. well I guess you would have to eliminate all of man kind, and ALL of the GUNS previously made, ALL guns Collected, ALL gunsmiths and so on

why not Eliminate the automobile while your at It.

And what If a country YOU feel IS stable becomes UNSTABLE, Like Russia Did, I like my guns just the way they are, all around us, evens the score

i like the way the UN passed a resolution to ban all arms sales to N. Korea apart from small arms.

this beggs the questions - who has been selling them arms, what have they been selling them and for how long?

aren't ehy supposed to be part of the "axis of evil"?

are we - the west, i.e. US, UK, France, etc - waiting for them to be sufficiently armed before we go in shooting first and asking questions later? is it more sport if they can fight back?

Unfortunately there are too many powerful people who are only interested in increasing their wealth, therefore arms dealing will never cease !! Take Margaret Thatchers' son who was guilty of such a crime !!

Yes, the best way to keep arms from anyone is to rid the world of weapons.

The problem is... how do you find them all, now that they've been made?
