Both sides of the duplex need to be fumigated at the same time or they will just move from one side to the other. Remember cockroaches are like "CHER" you can run her off, forget about her, but eventually she will show back up!!!! Sorry that's shi#@y for your first place -good luck...... Just a thought ... Peace....

Yes that is very possible. Roaches will go where they have access to food and water, so if there is nobody living next door they are going to come your way.Generally if there are roaches in a building, unless the whole building is professionally treated you won't get rid of them. If your landlord only treats half of the building, they will move to the other half for awhile, but they will eventually come back. They will get into everything and lay eggs in your things, then even if you move you will end up taking them with you. They are hard to get rid of. I would demand that your landlord treat the building immediately, and if he refuses, I would try to move right away. In the mean time, try not to leave any food or dirty dishes out, this will attract them to your apartment even more. Good luck , I know how you feel, they make my skin crawl.

Yes it is your landlord's responsibility to get rid of them.

It won't do any good to just bomb one area of the duplex as the roaches will just move to another area and then come back. The whole duplex has to be bombed at the same time.

Keep all your food tightly covered and leave nothing opened. Remove your garbage everyday. Wrap anything like bones in plastic and store it in your refrigerator until you are ready to take the garbage out. The point is not to leave anything out that the roaches can eat so there is no reason for them to stay.

If you think your landlord is going to be difficult, keep notes on when you notify them and what was said. If necessary contact your local health department for their advice.

Good luck!

Step one: Unbunch panties.

Step two: Take a very deep and cleansing breath.

Step three: Stop standing on the coffee table.

Now that I have your attention first thing too understand is that you really don't need too be overly frighened here. You have roaches in your appartment. They aren't going too access your bank account and they aren't going too make huge credit purchases in your name. Yes they are ucky. You can get rid of them.

First things first. If you want too live a roach free life you need too keep a tidy house. I'm not saying you gotta spend six hours a day steam cleaning everything. You do have too keep up with the basic chores. Clean up the kitchen when you are done using it. Get rid of food scraps as they come. Don't leave food open and unattended. keep up with the dishes. That sort of thing. It's going too take a bit of time too get rid of them but you'll win.

Bombing is fairly effective but it's a start over from scratch reaction. If it's not done correctly you may end up in a situation where you are just depressing the poppulation as opposed too wiping them out. Best bet is too get a pro in. I don't know where you live so I can't comment on weather you can force your land lord into bringing in a pro. You are going too have too investigate that. There should be a "housing ombudsman" or similar government agency where you live. Try them.

As too why you have roaches it could be that they are migrating too your place from your neighbors do too temperature but most likely they are coming for the food. You just moved in. That means you have a mess of corrigated packaging material around. The starch used too make the cardboard is something they can eat. Your neighbor is gone and the food he was providing is gone. Most likely though is that they have always been there.

As too what they can and can not get into? Um... if it's not sealed they can get in. Nature made them for that purpose. Getting into tight places.

The only food I would get rid of is the stuff that is open. Don't leave food open and unattended. That's just asking for trouble.

Just checking too make sure I covered everything. Hold on.

Yup! That's it. Oh! One more thing. Roach baits. Double edged sword. I don't recomend them.

Hope this helps.

A couple of months ago I got an entertainment center from my mother in laws house and I started to see roaches just every now and then. I pulled out the stove and refrigerator and cleaned under and behind them real good and wiped the sides down too. Then I put a line of boric acid behind them before putting them back(I have a 3 yr. old and didn't want to use any poisons where he could get into them). I haven't seen any roaches since then. You may want to make sure your landlord seals the cracks up after he bombs too.

Very good advice from Refresher, but in case you're feeling really grubby and horrible by now, you can still have roaches even if you keep your home spotless and NO food scraps ANYWHERE!!!!!

Sometimes there can be plagues of them, and they are no respecter of persons, they will live quite happily in the cleanest of homes, as well as the slums, so don't feel that it reflects on you.

I have the odd one here and there, and I murder it coldbloodedly first, then freakout!!

Nag your landlord if he is reluctant to come to the party, and call your tenants association if he won't help you......

Roaches are persistant, you must be the same to get rid of them.
Boric acid in drawers, in dark areas (under sinks) ect
Get some home insect controll, and spray up a storm! everywhere
do it again in 2 weeks. and again. they can be beaten.
Don't leave anything out they can eat. and keep the place clean.

Gross! I hate them too! If you can get your hands on a spray made by "Raid" called "Raid Max" that will do the trick. And it doesn't have that awful smell most bug sprays have. And it lasts a long time, most others really stop after they dry but that stuff works. I used it and they never came back. It is a bit more expensive but worth every penny. Good Luck!

For every cockroach you see, there are 10 you don't see. They are a VERY resilient species, and only professional exterminators stand any chance of eradicating them. Your landlord is obligated to resolve this problem, although the resolution will likely involve a course of repeated applications of pesticide to completely eradicate the threat. Good luck! :-)
