the Medela. I bought it and found that it not only is it a whole lot comfortable then a manual pump, it way more faster. It was well worth the money.

After seeking advice from a lactation consultant, I purchased the Medela In Style pump. It is a double pump which the consultant advised would be best for a 'going back to work' mom. It was expensive but worth the investment! I have never had any trouble with it and there are many handy products made by the same company to facilitate the pumping and storage process.

It depends on what you plan to use the pump for....like how often, etc.

For occasional pumping by a stay-at-home mom I'd recommend the manual Avent Isis.

For pumping at work for most moms, I'd suggest the Medela Pump In Style.

For teachers or people who might have trouble getting a break to pump at work, I'd suggest the Whisper Wear that you can actually wear under your clothes and is very silent.

For someone who will be pumping exclusively, I'd suggest a rental pump such as the Medela Lactina.

I used a hospital grade medela pumps after both kids. I didn't want to purchase a pump, so renting from the hospital was a great idea. Also, from what the lactation consultant told me, most pumps only have a one year warranty, so if you are planning on having more kids in the future, your breast pump may no longer work, and you'd have to buy another one. Just a consideration.

The Medela Pump In Style. Mine is very effective at extracting milk and I have used it for about 15 months now (pumping about 3 times a day) and it is showing no signs of ware.

I found that the electric pumps don't work as well as the manual breast pump. I used the Avent Isis and found that it worked the best!
