Because the uterus prepares itself for fertilisation of the egg, and possibly the creation of a new baby by building up a lining. If the egg is not fertilised, the uterus lining breaks down, it is this lining that is the period. Without this women would not be able to reproduce life.

Having a period lets you know that you are fertile, and it happens every 28 days. When an woman's egg is unfertilized, it is released, thus causing a period , the woman bleeds for 5-7 days. When it gets fertilized, then there is no period for 9 months(cause the chick is pregnant)..Dude, you really need to take a Human Anatomy Class, and learn this stuff! You should have learned all about this in 6th grade, and then again in 9th grade.

Ask her. I think she will apreciate it if you are interested in that, unless you ask too bluntly, of course. Just make sure you tell her you want her to feel her best, so you don't want to bother her during her period when she may not be feeling fully well.
