It's a sport that many people can play. Is bowling a sport? Sure, lawn bowling, too. So is curling. Archery, shooting are sports.
But to do any of these at the very top level, the professional level takes an amazing amount of skill. Guys on the PGA and women on the LPGA as well as all the golf associations around the world have such a high degree of skill and expertise that is unreachable for the 99% of us who play for the enjoyment.
Try as we might, we will never be able to hit a ball 350 yards (we don't have the strength or skill) or pitch a ball from the sand consistently close to the target (again not enough skill). These are muscle memory activities and mental toughness abilities only the top can achieve.

I say it's not. You dont need as much athletic ability as the other sports, track and field, baseball, basketball, swimming, etc. The real good "athletes" in golf don't even have to walk to the next hole. They just hitch a ride with the lovely cartman. So therefore the only thing that they do is swing a golf club. You might need a little bit of strength to hit it far on the first swing, but after that, you just need precision and accuracy. That's it, and that's how I feel about it but I've been wrong about things before and feel free to challenge me!

i do not think tha golf should be a sport or is one for that matter!are you kidding me? a golf stick and a ball and you make the hole and that is the whole game? come on! then people have actually lost appreciation for what real sports are! they should show on TV some rugby, more of what you guys call "soccer" and everyone calls it fotbal, swimming, gymnastics, ice skating, and the american football or other sports do not count! only basketball is real out of baseball in which you have guys with huge butts, huge paycheks and on steroids; american football for the "time" played and "effort" used and the people stupid to tune in to see games being played and the players getting millions! golf is not a sport but rather a waste of time just like any other American sports except basketball in which you do something!how does golf compare to soccer? it does not!in soccer you run for 90 minutes and maybe overtime and you need to be in the best shape of your life-think Brazil or any countries that play for the Euro or Worldcup!ice skating is a sport since you just do not swing a stick and make the ball in, but need to use dance as well as ballet as well as gymnastics as well as everything else! compare the level of hardness of these sports and you will see that golf does not compare because it cannot and it should not be considered a sport-maybe by the rich over here- but back in Europe they go hunting and do actual stuff!
