You could definatly still compete, but you would need to put in much more effort. I wonder, though, how many people really have NO access to a single computer or the internet? I do not have an ISP at home, but I use the internet at work and school. Most libraries have computers with internet access that can be used for free.

Of course you can. Internet is an excellent source of info., but books still exist! Your desire to learn is your greatest asset - if you are determined to succeed then you are more than half way there, in any field. Have faith in yourself - self confidence is very important.
Talk to your teacher/tutor - ask for advice on what you need to know. That's what they're there for.

It does make things harder these days, but most library's and schools have computers with the Internet.

but; you must putout for the teachers.
